This Cookie Policy explains how Bauer Advisory LLC, doing business as The Highland Method (“The Highland Method,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on https://www.thehighlandmethod.com, its subdomains, and the related website and course services (collectively, the “Services”).
This Policy should be read with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information.

2. Cookies and Similar Technologies
A cookie is a small text file placed on a browser or device when a website is visited. Cookies may be set by the website being visited (first-party cookies) or by another service whose technology appears on that website (third-party cookies).
Cookies may remain only during a browser session (session cookies) or for a stated period after the browser is closed (persistent cookies). Actual duration may be shorter because of browser restrictions, device settings, provider changes, or a user's privacy choices.
We also use or permit similar technologies, including local storage, session storage, pixels, tags, software development tools, and embedded media players. In this Policy, references to “cookies” generally include these similar technologies unless the context indicates otherwise.
3. Why We Use These Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
• Strictly necessary and security: to operate the Website, maintain sessions, authenticate users, protect accounts, prevent fraud, process checkout, and remember privacy choices;
• Functionality: to remember preferences, provide embedded media, support course features, and improve how the Services operate;
• Analytics: to understand Website traffic, navigation, engagement, course usage, and technical performance; and
• Advertising and measurement: to measure campaigns, understand whether advertising leads to Website activity, and, where enabled, provide or measure advertising that may be based on interests.
Strictly necessary technologies cannot generally be disabled through our preference tool because the Services may not function without them. Where a cookie-preference tool is available, analytics, advertising, and other optional technologies are subject to the choices offered through that tool.
4. Technologies Used by the Services
The following inventory describes the principal technologies currently used or made available through the Services. Providers may update cookie names, purposes, and durations. The cookies actually placed on a device depend on the pages visited, features used, consent choices, browser settings, and whether the user is logged in to a third-party service.
A. Website and Course Platform
Our website and online course platform use first-party cookies for essential operation, security, login, session management, and privacy preferences. Representative cookies include:
• XSRF-TOKEN: helps protect against cross-site request-forgery attacks; generally a session cookie;
• slim_session: maintains login or session state; generally retained for approximately 2.5 days; and
• DPSettings: remembers cookie or privacy preferences; generally retained for approximately 12 days.
The platform may use additional essential cookies, local storage, or session storage as features and security controls change.
B. Stripe Payments and Fraud Prevention
We use Stripe to support payment processing, payment authentication, fraud prevention, and related checkout functionality. Stripe.js may place necessary cookies and similar technologies when a page loads, when checkout is used, or when a user elects to use Stripe Link or another Stripe feature.
Representative Stripe technologies include:
• __stripe_mid: helps identify and prevent fraudulent transactions; generally retained for up to one year;
• __stripe_sid: helps identify and prevent fraudulent transactions during a checkout session; generally retained for approximately 30 minutes; and
• m: helps Stripe assess fraud risk; generally retained for up to two years.
Stripe may use additional cookies or local storage for payment authentication, Link, security, CAPTCHA, and fraud detection. These technologies are treated as necessary where they are required to secure or complete a transaction.
C. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand Website traffic and usage. Google Analytics may collect information such as device and browser information, approximate location derived from IP address, pages visited, referring sources, interactions, and session activity.
Representative Google Analytics cookies include:
• _ga: distinguishes users; the default duration is up to two years; and
• _ga_[container ID]: maintains session state; the default duration is up to two years.
Google may apply shorter durations because of browser restrictions or our configuration. Additional cookies may be used if Google Analytics is connected to advertising or measurement features.
D. Meta Pixel
We use the Meta Pixel to measure Website activity and the effectiveness of advertising on Meta services such as Facebook and Instagram. Depending on settings and how a visitor reaches the Website, Meta technologies may collect browser and device information, page activity, referring information, identifiers, and campaign or conversion events.
Representative Meta cookies include:
• _fbp: helps distinguish and measure visits from a browser; generally retained for up to 90 days; and
• _fbc: may record information associated with a Meta advertising click; generally retained for up to 90 days when applicable.
Meta may set or read other cookies when a visitor is logged in to a Meta service or interacts with a Meta feature. Meta Pixel technologies are treated as advertising or measurement technologies and are subject to applicable choices.
E. Wistia Video
We use Wistia to provide embedded video. Wistia's player may use local storage and other technologies to deliver video, remember playback state, measure engagement, and diagnose performance. Wistia states that its player generally uses local storage rather than cookies for tracking, although cookies may be used for certain features or tests.
Wistia offers a Privacy Mode that disables session tracking and anonymizes IP addresses for the player. Whether identifiable session tracking occurs depends on the player configuration and the visitor's privacy choices.
F. YouTube Video
Some pages contain embedded YouTube videos. When a YouTube player loads or a visitor interacts with it, Google or YouTube may use cookies and similar technologies for video delivery, security, playback preferences, audience measurement, and, depending on the embed configuration and the visitor's settings, advertising.
YouTube provides a privacy-enhanced embedding mode that reduces the use of an embedded view for personalization. Cookies and data used after a visitor leaves our Website or interacts directly with YouTube are controlled by Google under its own policies.
G. Social Sign-In and External Features
If a user chooses an available sign-in option from Google, Apple, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, or another provider, that provider may use cookies and similar technologies to authenticate the user, prevent fraud, and complete the requested connection. These technologies generally operate only when the user selects or interacts with the provider's feature.
Links to social-media pages or other external sites may allow those services to collect information after the visitor selects the link. Their independent practices are governed by their own policies.
5. Cookie Choices
Where the Website provides a cookie-preference tool, visitors may use it to accept or reject the optional categories offered and may return to it to change a prior selection. Rejecting optional cookies should not prevent basic Website access, although some analytics, personalization, advertising measurement, or embedded features may be limited.
Most browsers also allow users to view, block, or delete cookies and to limit cross-site tracking. Browser controls vary, and deleting cookies may also remove saved preferences or sign a user out. Blocking all cookies may prevent account, course, video, or checkout features from working correctly.
Some browsers or extensions send an opt-out preference signal, such as Global Privacy Control. Where applicable law requires us to recognize such a signal and we can reasonably associate it with the browser or device, we will treat it as a request to opt out of covered sale, sharing, or targeted-advertising processing.
6. Advertising, Sale, and Sharing
We do not sell personal information for money. Some U.S. state privacy laws define “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” broadly enough to include certain disclosures made through advertising or measurement technologies.
Where those laws apply, a visitor may opt out of covered processing through the Website's cookie-preference tool, through a recognized opt-out preference signal where legally required, or by emailing contact@thehighlandmethod.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.”
For more information about privacy rights and how to submit or appeal a request, see our Privacy Policy.
7. Third-Party Policies
Third-party providers control their own technologies and may change them independently. Additional information is available through the providers' privacy or cookie materials:
The inclusion of a provider does not mean that every cookie described in that provider's policy is used on our Website.
8. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy when technologies, providers, Website features, or legal requirements change. The revised Policy will state a new “Last updated” date and will become effective when posted unless a later date is stated.
Because providers may change individual cookie names and durations without notice, this inventory describes representative technologies rather than guaranteeing that every browser will display the same list. We will periodically review the Website and update this Policy when material changes occur.
